GORHAM, Maine —
A connector road between Gorham and the Maine Turnpike has just been announced.
It's a connector the Maine Turnpike Authority says has spent multiple years in planning with agreements between Gorham, Scarborough, Westbrook, South Portland and the Maine Department of Transportation.
Officials say they have been having conversations about the proposed connector for over twenty years.
The new connector will go from Turnpike Exit 45 in South Portland to the junction of the Gorham Bypass with Route 114, south of Gorham Village. The route was determined to avoid areas deemed environmentally sensitive.
Officials will hold a meeting in March for the public to learn about the project, ask question and make comments. It will also be available virtually for those who can not attend in person.
“Many good early conversations have taken place, and we now look forward to broadening the dialogue," Scarborough Town Manager Tom Hall said.
The connector will be fully funded by toll revenue.
